The Holiday

We watched "The Holiday" last night. It's a love story, starring Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Jack Black. It was a cute movie (yes, I did just say it was "cute"), compelling and fun to watch. One of the great lines was when Eli Wallach tells Kate Winslet over dinner, " You're a leading lady and you're acting like the best friend." I had to stop the movie and Sherry and I bantered about different situations this line might inform. We finally settled on the disheartening truth that this statement exposes the reality that we often settle for so much less than we might otherwise receive, attain, accomplish or become. I wondered all day where I've settled for second best (being a best friend) when I might have had the leading role.
